Missing Number is the abstract step in number-bond practice. Each round shows an equation with one number missing - 8 + ? = 10, ? + 6 = 10, or a take-away such as 10 - 4 = ? - and the child taps the answer that finishes the fact. Choose the bond family (5, 10 or 20), whether to practise addition, take-away or a mix, and Easy with two answers or Harder with four. A spoken stem sentence can be switched on.
It drills pure recall of addition and subtraction facts within 20, the symbolic tier of the concrete-pictorial-abstract sequence and a Y1 and Y2 UK National Curriculum objective. With no ten-frames or pictures, it is the point where children retrieve a known bond from memory rather than working it out, so it best follows the more visual bond games.
