How to play

Move either hand or use Earlier and Later. Read the teaching guide for clock comparisons and saved setups.

Make time make sense.

Move the hands. Cross an hour. Keep a start time and see how much time has passed. Yours to explore, with no timer or wrong answers.

Set a specific time

Use 00–23 for the hour and 00–59 for minutes.

Pick up here next time.

Save the clocks and display choices on this device, or send an exact starting point to someone else. Their changes won’t alter yours.

Try a useful example

For noon or midnight, choose its “five before” example, keep a five-minute jump and press Later.

Move either hand, or use Earlier and Later. The hands stay linked.

How linked hands and explorer stickers work

Moving the minute hand past twelve also moves the hour forwards or backwards. The hour hand keeps its gradual minute offset. Drags follow the shortest movement between sampled positions; a half-turn ties clockwise. For an exact duration, use the jump controls.

One completed drag or one time-changing control action counts as an explorer adjustment. Display switches, typing before submission, unchanged times and simply opening the tool do not count. Explorer stickers mark 1, 10 and 50 adjustments on this browser; they do not score correct answers. Use Set a target for the existing accuracy-based clock practice.

Open your sticker book to view earned explorer rewards.

The standard clock starts at 3:15. Save this setup keeps one set of clocks and display choices on this device; Open saved setup restores it. A shared setup link supplies its own starting point and does not overwrite a saved setup. Moving the clocks does not automatically update either snapshot.

A free interactive clock for teaching time

Move the hands to explore analogue time alongside a digital display and time in words. The hands stay linked: moving the minute hand through twelve carries the hour forwards or backwards. Choose 12-hour time with am/pm or a 24-hour readout, and switch between ordinary hour numbers and Roman numerals. No signup or countdown is needed.

Teach quarter past, half past and quarter to

Choose a 15-minute jump and press Later. Watch the minute hand move a quarter of the way around the face and the hour hand move gradually between the numbers. Switch off the digital and word readouts to discuss the hands before revealing an answer. The minute numbers can be hidden independently.

Compare a start time with an end time

Set the first time, then choose Keep this as start. A smaller clock holds it while the large clock keeps moving. The comparison shows the forward interval between them. For example, start at 9:45 and move Later by 30 minutes: the end time is 10:15 and the interval is 30 minutes. Try crossing noon or midnight using the examples below the tool.

If the end time is earlier on the 24-hour clock, it is treated as the next day. From 23:55 to 00:05 the interval is ten minutes. Matching times mean zero minutes. This tool compares intervals shorter than 24 hours; it does not calculate dates or multi-day journeys. Hidden readouts also hide the interval, so it can be worked out from the two clock faces.

Save a lesson setup or send it to another device

Save this setup keeps one snapshot of the current time, start clock, jump size and display choices in this browser. Open saved setup brings it back. Update saved setup replaces that snapshot. Moving the clock afterwards leaves the saved version intact.

Copy setup link creates a link that opens the same starting point on another device. It includes the clock values and display choices, including hidden readouts, but no personal details or earned stickers. Anyone with the link can inspect those settings. Recipients can move the hands freely; their changes do not affect the sender. Copy again after changing the clock to send a new snapshot.

Buttons, touch and explorer stickers

Dragging is optional. Earlier and Later move by one, five, fifteen or thirty minutes, or one hour. The time-entry form accepts hours 00–23 and minutes 00–59. Tab, Enter and Space operate the labelled controls. On a phone, use those controls if a clock hand is awkward to drag.

Clock Explorer stickers mark 1, 10 and 50 completed time adjustments. One completed drag counts once; opening a link, saving, copying or changing display options does not earn a sticker. These rewards recognise exploration, not accurate answers. Existing Clock Explorer stickers remain in your sticker book.

For questions with an answer to find, play Read the Clock or set the hands to a target time. To put events in sequence, try My Day.
